Description
Sam Miller was a Polish immigrant who came to the United States in 1870. Sam Miller’s Exchange Café opened in 1901 at 1301 East Cary Street in the Colombian Block Building. The restaurant was closed in 1909 as Sam moved to Broad Street to pursue other business ventures.
In April 1865, Shockoe Slip suffered damages after the Richmond fire which signified the end of the Civil War. The area was rebuilt in the late 1860s with most of the buildings surviving to this day. The Slip went into decline in the 1920s until, in the summer of 1974, it was revived again and Sam Miller’s Warehouse Restaurant opened.
History remains, but the pleasure of dining at Sam Miller’s is new and refreshing!

This is a great bar where I meet friends and business associates for both lunch and dinner. The happy hour is affordable and the apps are delicious; fried oysters and a variety of seafood items such as shrimp cocktail and crab dip.
